While there are many different printers and inks on the market that can produce architectural prints, few can do so with the superiority that is required for output of precise large-format renderings. A centrally important, often disregarded and misunderstood criterion for printing is the longevity of the inks. All inks are photosensitive, meaning that they react to light, due mostly to the ultra-violet portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. This causes them to fade over time. Certain inks fade quicker than others. On the one hand, dye based inks have the shortest longevity, and under some conditions, can fade noticeably overnight. On the other hand, pigment based inks can last over one hundred years. We use only the best museum-quality archival pigment inks available on the market today. Mobius Studios stays at the forefront of ink technology, always evaluating news inks that come to market and adopting that latest in archival ink technology.
Choosing the right type of ink is only half the battle; proper color management is critical. Without proper color management, a printer is rendered completely useless for printing renderings. True color for architects means that every rendered element looks correct in terms of its color; your renderings must be accurate so your clients receive a strict representation of the project. Mobius Studios recognizes that correct color management is as important to the firms that we work with as the final production of their renderings and we make every effort to attain the most exact color reproduction in the business. That is why we offer custom color profiling with our state of the art color spectrophotometer for all our customers. We individually profile each paper used and re-profile our printer constantly; ultimately the color workflow can begin with the scanners, monitors, and printers at your architectural firm. Mobius Studios uses the highest quality large-format printers, which can print up to forty-two by ninety inches. Our printers use variable droplet wide path print-heads, features not found in the Epson 9000 series or below, the HP wide format printers, or the Roland Hi-Fi jet printers.
